The true reason Mamoru wears such horrible clothing: Because every time he goes out in public in an outfit that actually looks good on him, he gets tons of attention and people keep asking him to model for them.
He is oblivious all he knows is people bother him in those sorts of clothes and they leave him alone in his normal clothes avoid him even! When Usagi figures out what happens when he wears nice clothes she stops trying to replace his wardrobe she figures this is for the best

I can’t even begin to describe how hilarious and adorable I find this.
I mean the fact Usagi just runs up to her boyfriend and is like “DAMN YER HANDSOME!” She doesn’t play around, GET IT GURL.
And that Mamoru’s reaction is to giggle and blush and be like “omg you think so for reals that makes me happy”
and then she starts going on about his proportions okay gurl we know where your eyes have been wandering and Mamoru just giggles some more and be like “cut out Usako aawww” gosh they are a couple of dorks.
Also the “you look good in anything” has that hidden subtext of “which is good because your fashion taste is shit”.

Seriously, he is such a mom. Look at that happiness. I bet he demands to do most of the childrearing of Chibiusa when she’s born and Usagi is like “fine by me, knock yourself out dude”.
I also like how, because it’s Mamoru, he managed to find an apron that clashed with pretty much everything.
