Miles Miller. Mother fucking creator of Smallville. [source]

For real though. Why do it if you despise the character so?

This character is constantaly misunderstood, underestimated, and unfairly ridiculed because he’s a well adjusted, nice guy who just happens to have superpowers. I DON’T WANT ANGSTY CLARK. CLARK IS NOT BRUCE WAYNE. That’s one of the main reasons I liked him so much.

For reals. Why is “Superman is angsty and ineffectual” better than “Superman is an earnest do-gooder?” Cuz that’s what I get from Smallville: Lois is awesome, Clark kinda sucks.
I like Superman- not a huge fan or regular buyer of his title but. I like him. He’s fills me with warm fuzzies with how much he cares and tries his best. He’s this really nice guy with an awesome wife who answers “what would you do on the last day with your life” with “I’d have some ice cream” and is interesting because he fights giant monsters and shit and has to deal with being an alien with so many identities with enormous power and running up against evil. He doesn’t need to be an angstbucket who treats everyone around him like shit. We have Bruce for that. And when I get sick of Bruce (often), it’s good to know I can turn to Clark or Diana or heroes like them and say “Ah, here’s my warm fuzzies”.
Good and pure is not boring or bad. Idealistic ideal heroes exist for a reason- to give us hope and inspiration and make you feel good. Heroes like Superman may get “boring or Mary Sueish” to some, but they serve a purpose- to let us know we could be better.
And Supes and Wondy had plenty of flaws and conflicts while still being earnest and good and not Bruce-level-angsty.
