So I’m watching Romeo X Juliet

The anime store at Meg’s place had it on sale and it was like, pretty cover art and the sales lady kepy gushing like “THIS IS THE ONLY VERSION WHERE I’M ACTUALLY SAD THEY DIE” and I was like “WAY TO SPOIL THE ENDING haha kidding”. So I was easily taken in.

I was never particularly fond of R and J myself, I mean, it’s a good example of teenagers being really stupid and believing infatuation=love and this tragedy, but no one ever sees it that way ugggh. Anyway I prefer Twelfth Night idk. And so when the sales lady was like “ALSO LIKE TWELFTH NIGHT” I was like “yay that is my favorite”.

So watched the first three episodes, and I have to say, any reimagination of Romeo and Juliet where with Juliet being a swashbuckling, crossdressing Zorro type superhero who fights the corrupt nobles of Verona and rescues their victims is automatically the best version of Romeo and Juliet okay. And Romeo is kind of the Tuxedo Mask to her Sailor Moon so far (I do hope she saves him soon tho, also in the vein of Sailor Moon).

Also there are dragons that people ride

and William Shakespeare is a character in it somehow? He is inspired by all dis crossdressing.

My only problem with it is that Juliet, who is played as a competent fighter, gets constantly rescued by everyone from everyone (even nameless mooks). Which turns her in a faux action girl. I cannot honestly remember a time where she is not getting saved. Also she made me mad at the end.

On the other hand I was honestly shocked by how much I ended up liking Romeo. In every other R&J version I have ever seen I always end up disliking him a great deal.

oh, so that doesn’t stop? She never saves him? Goddammit I was hoping. She still has cool moves at least. *sigh*
