seriously though this whole bit was OOC as hell for the rest of the inners. “Lets just all dump on Usagi and tell her she doesn’t deserve to be the leader so we’ll fight her” SO MUCH FOR FRIENDSHIP. WAY TO BE A SUPPORTIVE BOYFRIEND THERE TOO MAMORU WHAT THE HELL IS THE POINT OF ALL YOUR MOTIVATIONAL SPEECHES IF YOU THINK THAT

it’s like everyone turned into the dub suddenly.

ossydarling asked: Top 5 Sailormoon manga moments?

well i can just copy two of my Usagi moments for these

1. Not that the ending to anime wasn’t great, but I prefer the Stars manga because it was just such massive character development for Usagi and such an interesting choice- she’s seen everyone around her die. She’s had to personally kill them tooThe entire fucking universe is basically dead. This is the girl who gave up on life when her boyfriend died in her past life, who gave up on life when she had to kill him in the first arc (understandable, she was fourteen and having to straight up murder someone you like would break most people)- but now she’s been through so much, she’s being blamed for “attracting it all” and she has the choice to end all the pain and suffering in the universe- but that would take away the chance of new life- because life is conflict and suffering. I freaking love moral dilemma’s like that, and it’s a surprisingly thorny thing to get into for a cheesy 90s manga.

But she’s grown. She’s seen the strength of the people around her and she knows her own strength. So she refuses to give up, and she refuses to end life to end war. She’s accepted that her life will be hard, that being powerful is hard. She’s accepted she’ll see death. But everyone is still with her as long as she keeps going. She believes in her own strength enough now that she just doesn’t call it quits when someone she loves dies, she goes all the way to save them. So she freaking dives in there and purifies the entire freaking universe- taking on the SOURCE OF LIFE AND EVIL ITSELF- and when she’s given an option to just chill in the galaxy cauldron and not be reborn again? “No matter how tough it is, I want to live my life with these people”.

When people say the manga had no character development, they’re objectively wrong. A lot of the supporting characters may have gotten the shaft (though they did have some) but Usagi’s was beautiful to me and always will be.

oh and she caps it off by basically thinking about how she’ll always protect her oft-imperiled groom as they do the kiss at the wedding and flinging herself at all her precious friends and vowing to protect them too. Usagi Tsukino is a boss and doesn’t give a fuck about her gender roles and is getting married to all her friends too thanks.

2) How the manga handled the whole Dimande thing- the fact that Usagi rescued herself from the creepy sexual predator (and then had to rescue her boyfriend from a sexual predator totes role reversal anime why did you have to change it to playing the “boyfriend rescues girl from sexual assault straight), that she was told by Dimande and Sapphir that her future self ruined everything and she started to believe it- but finally she realizes, “no, you know what, I believe in myself and my power.I believe I’ll be a good adult”. And with that she’s able to tap into the strength of her future self and fucking RIP HIS LAIR APART, tell him off and rescue her friends it’s all the best.

3) Pluto’s death in the manga, and the fact it’s what made Chibiusa break free of her brainwashing and triggered her transformation into a sailor senshi. Chibiusa was convinced she was alone- but she looks at Pluto and realizes “no- this woman has supported me and always been by my side and been my best fucking friend- and this is despite the fact she’s been alone for CENTURIES, that she’s more lonely than ANYONE- and still she sacrifices everything and takes responsibility. This is what being an adult is- responsibility, sacrifice, enduring loneliness.” And it’s that that allows her to break free of Black Lady and take the first real step to adulthood. It’s so beautiful and thematic and I love Setsuna in the manga so much and I love how important her friendship with Chibiusa is.

4) “We don’t need any men. Got a problem with that?” It’s the perfect culmination of Rei and Mina’s arcs- they both struggled with the expectation boys should be top priority. Mina internalized it almost completely- she was really upset when she realized she wasn’t actually serious about any of the crushes she’d had and she loves being Sailor V more than anything. She was upset when she rejected  romance with Ace because she cared more about her fellow Senshi. But here, she’s largely been able to work through it. She looks the Starlights in the eye and tell her “yeah. it is true, Usagi will always take precedence” and Rei- who’s had to deal with some of the same stuff- she maybe didn’t internalize it the way Mina has, she’s already been through the thing where she’s told she should find a dude and marry him and get taken care of and says “no fuck that”- she’s found herself too, and she supports Mina and later they get married. They’ve chosen a path that’s not considered acceptable for girls, and they’re confident about it- they challenge anyone to have a problem with it.

5) Chibiusa and Hotaru’s goodbye in the manga, and Chibiusa deciding to fight for Hotaru. My babies.
