HE’S GONNA NAME ROBIN AFTER HIS MOM

ROBIN IS A LEGACY GIVEN FROM A MOTHER

DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH THAT CHANGES THE IDEA OF ROBIN

BECAUSE MOTHERS ARE SO IMPORTANT TO ALL THE ROBINS

WORTH MARY, WHO NAMED IT, AND CATHERINE, WHO WAS THE REASON JASON WAS SO PROTECTIVE, TO TIM, WHO TOOK THE MANTLE AFTER HIS MOTHER’S DEATH AND LOVED DANA, AND STEPHANIE WITH CRYSTAL AND HOW THEY’RE ALL EACH OTHER HAS, AND DAMIAN AND TALIA

ROBINS

AND THEIR FUCKING MOTHERS

Tim: Where should we go now?
Steph: I’ve only been up a few hours, but I feel like sleeping again.
Tim: Well, you were badly injured yesterday and then today you…
Steph (smiling maniacally, clawing her hands dramatically): I treated my boyfriend to the date from hell!
Tim (putting his hands on her shoulders): No! I want to hear everything, everything you feel, everything you experience, even if it hurts to hear it! I mean, what’s a date supposed to be, anyway? All parades and candy and tra la la? This is what it’s all about.
Steph (hugging him): Well, tra la la isn’t so bad once in a while either, sweetie.

CUTIES.
Seriously, I love this page. Steph is fantastic as always, and Tim genuinely wants to be there for her, even if she’s dealing with stuff that’s over his head. This was why I liked them back in the day. He’ll sit and listen to her talk about her childhood and how she was almost sexually assaulted once, and when he gets angry she’ll remind him it isn’t about him, and he’ll back off and let her talk and tell her he wants to be there for her for everything she feels, and he doesn’t care about having a “nice” date, because he knows a relationship is really about understanding and supporting the other person, and really listening to them. And she reminds him back that everything doesn’t have to be hardcore feelingstime angst, they can still relax and have fun together (something Tim DESPERATELY needs to be told).
This is the Tim and Steph of my heart, and the Tim of my heart. He still didn’t realy act like he was genuinely interested in kissing and sex a lot (it was v. easy to read him as ace even in this run) but he WAS a genuinely good friend and partner to Steph, who also happened to be a really awkward, insecure dork.

see i’m nice to tim sometimes
and also read him as ace.
like wow
you are so ace tim

Robin/Batgirl: Fresh BloodRobin (1993-2009) #132

"Dana’s in bad shape. Dad’s loss hammered her pretty hard. There’s a private clinic in Bludhaven that specializes in treating her kind of disabling grief. It’s very prestigious and incredibly expensive. I told them to expect an anonymous donation from a wealthy philanthropist, to cover the cost. Know anyone like that, Bruce?"
I think one of the reasons I hate the fallout of all this trauma so much for Tim’s character is because I can so easily see a million ways of handling it better than it was: as in it being handled at all.
Tim and Dana’s relationship could have been explored — she’s not an “obstacle” Bruce being able to adopt Tim (something… I’m not even sure is the reason that happened or Jack died or any of these choices were made because they sure as hell take a couple of years before they actually let Bruce adopt Tim, don’t they?) and she’s grieving Jack’s death at the same time Tim has that, Steph’s death, and his classmate’s death weighing on him. Why not have that be an angle to their relationship?
And I can’t be the only one that feels like Dana’s being written off with a “woman who goes crazy/falls apart because her husband died.” Again, I’m not trying to minimize the grief of losing a spouse, or the fact that sometimes people deal with grief so severe they need professional help. I just can’t be the only one to notice that women dealing with divorce/death of husbands in comics become puddles while men become the Punisher, right?
Also: I think it can be said that I’ve shown how much I can really love Damion Scott’s art when he worked on Batgirl. But… lots of my compliments for his inventiveness and unique sensibilities get muddled and lost here on his work with Robin. Which, honestly, pains me to say.
I think it shows the most in sequences where characters stand around and share dialogue, where things are stationary. Because that’s not the best use of his talents as an artist. I don’t want to be picky with artists, because everyone sees and appreciates art differently. Especially in comics.
I’ll just say that these issues of Robin are some of the few examples of Scott’s work where I don’t think the art fits the writing.

YES. EXACTLY THIS. GOD. EVERYTHING THEY DID WITH DANA (everything they DIDN’T do) annoyed me SO MUCH….

Robin (1993-2009) #56

"That’s a trick question, right? I mean, what’s a coupla sodas? We aaved the whole store.

This is a viewpoint I agree with Tim on. If you’re going to call yourself a hero or vigilante and not go against everything you’re working toward, you have to be willing to draw lines for yourself and hold yourself to even stricter standards. You can’t be doing these things for freebies, you have to be doing it for something more than acclaim or recognition.

No one owes you for doing the right thing.

I’m not really harping on Steph here. If I ever find a can of Zesti I’m not sure what I’d do to obtain it, this sequence just gave me a stepping stool to carry out a ramble on

I actually dislike this sequence, because Tim’s never wanted for money at this point. Steph is poor. And she has been her whole life. Tim is about as privileged as you can get ahead of her.

He can afford to hold himself to stricter standards. He doesn’t have to even deal with this temptation.

"Hey, I saved this store so it’s pretty much okay for me to get a soda without having to forgo money i need to put towards neccessities’!

I’m not saying Tim’s philosophy is wrong, but he doesn’t have to sacrifice for it or work towards it at all, so I can’t really “respect” him for it. He’s  able to have it because of the money he has. It’s never something that’s gonna be tested for him. He really has no place lecturing Steph about this shit.

It’s a rich boy lecturing a poor girl with a criminal father and former-drug-addict mother who’s risking her life to help people about how she can’t have a soda or soon she’ll start holding up schoolbuses or something and forcing her to spend money when she doesn’t have much and he does. If it’s his issue, he should have set down the money himself. Knowing Steph’s personality, that would have also made her feel bad.

Batgirl (2000-2006) #53

"Batman’s busy. I think we can take care of this ourselves… Can’t we, Girls?"

BUHHH. My Team Batgirl. Forever.

Man I’m such a sap. But I can’t help my feels, guys. I just can’t. I love this team of awesome ladies. I hate that it didn’t last more than a handful of issues of Batgirl altogether.

Ugh. Just feels. So many.

And yeah, no, I wouldn’t touch Bruce’s books with a ten foot pole during this time, ladies. Stay out while you can! He’s just screwing around and making everyone’s work with the GCPD a thousand times more difficult because… OH THAT’S RIGHT NO REASON AT ALL

If Bruce bothered to read Gotham Central, he’d know those cops don’t need his additional shit making their work even harder.

Ugh, SAME. I love the fleeting moments where Steph, Cass and Babs were a team. I love these three as a powerhouse. The idea of these three women just kind of having their own small little squad and sisterhood.

Absolutely my ideal version when I think of these guys is Batgirl!Cass, Oracle!Babs and Steph!Robin  which is hilarious because it was a single issue. I just…really wish DC had sincerely made Steph Robin instead of just making her one to be killed off. I hate it so fucking much she wasn’t even getting a chance. Think of how cool it could have been for there to be a sincere effort made toward a girl Robin. So I just stubbornly cling to this issue and fantasize about what could have been. A magical world where there is a “Batgirl and Robin” book published or something.
