What exactly is a “Steph apologist”??????? :/Well…
OR, as I said before, that to some people, Steph represents a big problem with modern comic books. Like I said, Neo-Prodigy is out of line with the gendered insults, but people who have a problem with the fact that Steph, a blue-eyed white person, got to benefit from white privilege and replace one of DC’s only women of color is a very legitimate reason to not like the character.
People who aren’t makin sexist and vile remarks shouldn’t be shamed for not liking Steph for completely understandable reasons.
People keep saying it isn’t Steph’s fault, but can you not see why some people, especially POCs take issue with the character?
Well, it looks like I fucked up again, and I apologize.
I was not meaning to say nobody could take issue with Steph or dislike her because of what happened to Cass. I was not trying to silence or police people’s feelings. Dislike and resent Steph for what happened all you want! She did benefit from white privilege.
I do admit I don’t like it when people bash her even if that’s wrong of me. I just hope people remember that bashing can, and often does, easily slip into misogyny (as neo_prodigy kindly demonstrated) which hurts everyone, just like racism. And if it does slip into misogyny, it should be called out. The thing Steph owns as a character is that she benefits from white privilege, yeah. But don’t attach other crimes to her because the girl character is easy to blame. DC orchestrated that. All of the blame for what happened falls on DC, and if we forget that, they win and get away with it.
And people should know their facts that initially Babs was supposed to replace Cass, so she could have easily been the poster child for the problem (and also the poster child for reversing disabilities to go back to Silver Age nostalgia!) That’s an important thing to remember.
That’s really all I was trying to say, but as usual I screwed up. I’ll admit my love of Steph (though I love Cass just as much) can blind me with these issues, and I’m glad people are willing to call me on that. I want to be fair to everyone and not silence anyone, I just think it’s terrible that DC put Steph and Cass in the position where they are pitted against each other and Steph benefits from privilege while Cass is exiled- they are bffs for christ’s sake- and it makes me sad that fandom has to follow that. But opinions and feelings can’t be policed.
Also, as has been pointed out to me, I may not actually know what apologist means. i r stupid.
