Who're you supposed to be, T-Shirt And Jeans Girl?: You know what confuses me most about how people pit female chars against each other?
How often these women are best friends in canon.
People who hate on Steph over Cass? If Cass was real, she’d punch you in the face for flinging gendered insults at Steph. People who love Steph and diss Cass? Steph would give you a wedgie, hang you on top of a…
See, I agree with most of it, but I feel like it’s unfairly silencing people. Ya know what? Cass got fucked over really bad, and Steph got to benefit from white privilege and get her own title.
It’s systematic of a huge problem at DC, and people have every right to dislike the character because of it. Saying “Cass would kick your ass for expressing those opinions!” seems kinda messed up.
This territory is why I said gendered insults for that situation (and most of the rhetoric flung at my examples is gendered)
Which Cass would kick your ass for.
Those hurt her too.
Saying “I don’t like Steph because she benefits from white privilege” is one thing, saying “Steph replaced Cass and therefore she is a ditz and a bimbo”…that language hurts Cass too.
Kyriarchy etc Dc shouldn’t have pitted Steph and Cass against each other etc
(And I was more referring to the larger trend in fandom as well with those two being one of the many examples of female characters being bashed in the name of “defending” their female best friends- Cass and Steph were pitted against each other long before any of this Batgirl stuff happened.)
But I sincerely don’t mean to silence anyone, and I apologize. Sorry.
