Chibiusa is majorly insecure that she’ll never be able to live up to her mother, which I relate to pretty hard and I think a lot of people do, and it really makes sense for someone in her situation. So once again, wish they’d kept that element in the anime.

We also see a interesting reversal of the whole Usagi-Mamoru jealousy here- while Usagi is convinced Mamoru loves Chibiusa more, Chibiusa is convinced Neo Queen Serenity loves Mamoru more, and past!Usagi’s little freakouts are probably not helping.

But, this is shown to be untrue later, both in this story and by the fact in later issues of the manga Chibiusa has flashbacks to scenes where Serenity is clearly present and showing affection- so she’s really distorting and exaggerating things a bit in her insecurity. The fact is, her mother IS super busy and probably not around much. Endymion is clearly around much more often (in my musings of Mamoru as stay at home Dad, I completely forgot the R manga practically confirms that this is the case for the most part) and as speculated before, I imagine Usagi is more likely the disciplinarian of the family and the one more likely to show her temper to Chibiusa, since Mamoru would let her get away with anything.

So Chibiusa desperately idolizes her mother and feels inadequate to her, and her insecurity leads her to believe that her mother may not love her. And then those rotten kids tell her to go get the Silver Crystal. You can guess where this leads…
