So, a lot of things people seem to misinterpret in Sailor Moon is the whole Usagi/Chibiusa/Mamoru triangle thing and Usagi’s jealousy of Chibiusa. Yeah, it weirded me out at first too. But that’s actually because it’s a pretty complex theme that isn’t tackled a lot in fiction, so it’s unusual. No, Chibiusa is not actually in love with Mamoru or vice versa, and Usagi isn’t jealous because she thinks Mamoru is an incestuous pedophile. I think the anime made this pretty clear as well, but they also tended to play the whole thing for comedy and kept it going longer than the manga, which had it be a deadly serious plot point and thing for Usagi to overcome and learn from.
So I am going to be going through the R manga and give my EXPERT ANALYSIS on the whole deal between Chibiusa, Usagi and Mamoru and also my thoughts on the relationship between Chibiusa and Usagi in general, and their character development in the R manga.
Here, Chibiusa’s finally confessed she’s from the 30th century. Now Usagi has no reason to be suspicious of the girl, she relaxes and lets her affection show through, smiling and asking Chibiusa to come home with her. However, Chibiusa has gotten pretty attached to Mamoru with all the doll giving and him LOVING KIDS SO MUCH and Usagi, who had no idea about that, is sort of taken aback.
