Sailor moon manga being reprinted!
I am so excited I will actually get to own gorgeous copies of this glory omg. About fucking time (she says even though she’s been a fan for less than a year. IT WAS A REALLY PROLIFIC YEAR THOUGH OKAY) I love how the article is all like “and so Sailor Moon is basically the best, she transforms for love and justice IN THE NAME OF THE MOON.” Usagi would be proud that they worked her catchphrase into the press release.
Maybe they will release hidef dvd’s and redub too? Ahhh I almost regret buying my totallyprobablybootleg DVDs except I don’t.
To make this day better, Justin and I watched this anime movie called Summer Wars. The main character was this adorkable nerdy guy and then the typical love interest so I thought it was going to be all typical, except the movie revolved around her awesome family especially her awesome grandmother. Then her grandmother died and I was like “omg I knew it” and it was like…all the men in the family were going to finally TAKE CHARGE and defeat the evil AI that inadvertantly led to her death as revenge which the women were all like was a silly thing to do we should plans for the funeral aren’t women silly and I was like “really movie?” D:
Except no, because the granny wrote a supermotivational letterwill that snaps the all to heroism and then the “love interest” steps up, and figures out how to contact their estranged uncle to help them fix this deal. Then SHE goes up against the computer virus with the entire family backing her up and uses her Checkov’s skill of being good at a card game to challenge the AI who cannot resist a challenge and kicking his ass at the card game and it looked like she was going to lose for a second and I thought the “main” guy would save her except no, the entire internet comes to her aid and it has her do a fucking magical girl translation and DESTROY THE GIANT GODZILLA MONSTER AI WITH HER MAD CARDPLAYING GODDESS SKILLS. THUS SAVING THE ENTIRE WORLD FROM BLOWING UP.
Then the remnants of this thing redirect the missile at their house and the supposed main guy gets his moment to shine by doing a really hard math problem so hard he gets a nosebleed with her helping him by motivating him. But it’s totally not as a big a deal as saving the world by playing koi-koi, all he did was save their house (they could have evacuated) good for him though!
So basically this movie subverted all my expectations and was about a entire family kicking ass but mostly the ladies and it was the supposed shallow love interest that actually saved the world with help from a kickass granny. WELL PLAYED, MOVIE. YOU WERE ALSO A LOT OF FUN, I LOVE YOU.
So today is a good day for kickass anime ladies and magical girls who save the world, yes indeed.
