I /hated/ that movie. It was all gimmicks, bad acting and flat characters. I’m not judging the comics by the movie, but I felt the movie was just … bad. :/
I can understand that. I liked the movie when I first saw it, cuz I read the comic, but thinking about it, it left out a lot of things that were really essential. Ramona had a million times more depth in the comic, the thing with Knives was way more kind to her, and the ending…a million times better. Also, there were several people who were barely in the movie that were important in the comic (Kim Pine, the redhead, for instance, was a pretty important character. There was a char called Lisa Miller who was entirely cut out of the film)
Scott Pilgrim: the comic is a lot of fun, and it had a ton of female characters and gay characters who weren’t othered and geeky jokes, and I liked that it didn’t take itself seriously but in the end (and this is just the comic) it told a story about how people can be jerks when they’re young and edit their own memories to make themselves look better and get in shitty relationships, but in the end you’ve got to just keep trying and grow up.
Like I said, six volumes. The characters aren’t the most wonderful people, or inCREDIBLY deep, but they definitely aren’t flat characters in the comic.
